Ween DOES have an Awesome Sound and this proves it. I discovered this live vid of the guys playing said tune and felt obligated to share with fellow worshipers of the Boognish. This video shows Deaner at his best. This crumb is mighty excited to see the boys back on the stage this summer.

Pixel Apocalypse

Godzilla, aliens, apocalyptic natural disasters? Nope, classic 80's video games. Many have prophesied the end of the world but none have foreseen our eminent global annihilation as manifested in the form of an 8-bit wave of destruction unleashed by some Pandora-esque television set abandoned by a hipster in Brooklyn. This video shows just that, and I think it's safe to say that the children of the 80's can relate to such a vision of pixel apocalypse.

Aside from it's impressive graphics and overall creative vision, the best thing about this video is the comment left by some smarty pants on YouTube.

Crumberazzi: Nice LJ Bradley!

Just another day in NYC, stopped by CVS to grab an Rx and well well well... who do we have here? It's heart-throb and Hangover star Bradley Cooper filming a scene for his new motion picture Dark Fields. Sweet leather jacket BC, who's the bald dude? And where the F is De Niro!? (rumored to be starring in the film as well). Seems like a nice enough guy. Those PA's locking down the streets on the other hand, they need to get their shit together. I could have easily ninja'd my way straight for him with a Sharpie in one hand and a photo of Zach Galifianakis in the other, like so many of the misinformed pedestrians squinting to get a glimpse of "that guy" from the Hangover would have done had they been carrying either or.

Diesel Does Godard

Diesel has began a reputation for cool hipster web campaigns with a squeeze of retro relevance, let us not forget last years SFW XXX viral that brought back the gritty glam of 80's hardcore porn strategically animated in a fashion fit for ages 6 and up. The label's latest SS10 catalogue has particularly peaked my interest as it's a direct homage to the dance scene in Godard's Band a Part (those of you who know me will recognize this as a choice scene from one of my favorite films...I've posted about it before). Kudo's to Diesel for picking such a stellar homage. I'm on the fence about the music choice...can't quite decide if it fits (not losing any sleep over it, however). Thoughts about the video? Any Godard buffs wish to weigh in?

I'M BACK!

After a lengthy hiatus from the blog I'm back! I'm sure you're all ecstatic to hear so, eagerly awaiting my return in 2010.... ::crickets:: To be honest, I have not an excuse for my lack of posts aside from general laziness. I logged on to the MC email today only to find a message from my little brother, the hotelier extraordinaire, with the subject line "Slacker!" Alas, that was all it took to revive the M. Crumb. Kasabian Football Hero

The Mightiest Crumb has recently secured himself a few tickets to World Cup 2010 in South Africa and will progressively be getting more and more charged about said event over the next 8 months (assuming he lands a miracle to finance his travels). In the spirit of daft and insane socceries, I couldn't help but post this video of some English footballers and their attempt to coalesce the world's most popular sport with the world's (or at least the USA's) most popular contemporary video game. Lickshot Launch Party

Last night The Mightiest Crumb was fortunate enough to attend the launch party for Ben Watts' new book Lickshot: a photo scrapbook. Hosted at the Hudson Hotel and sponsored by Moët & Chandon. The party drew quite a fun and fashionable crowd including Ben's sis Naomi and hubby Liev. The book has already garnered heaps of good press and should manage to be a success for the talented photog. Congrat's Ben on a great book with serious attitude and a successful launch!

Also thanks Moët & Chandon, though I think I'll stay away from champagne from now on. It's bad news for me.

Balenciaga RTW Spring 2010

Balenciaga's SS10 collection had landed. Every time Paris fashion week pops up like a snooty hurrah to it's predecessors-- face it, we're talking high fashion heavy hitters here, not your run of the mill Nutella smuggling crepe peddlers-- this Crumb gets very excited to see what Monsieur Ghesquiere will be sending down the runway. Here is a taste.
It's hard to tell what inspirations from the depths of Critobal's archives have been resurrected in Nicolas' new collection. Regardless, it's edgy, chic, brimming with his signature futurism and unmistakably Balenciaga.

Greg Lauren - Alterations: New Works on Paper

Greg Lauren - artist, designer and nephew of Ralph has just opened a new and very impressive installation titled Alterations: New Works on Paper. I had the pleasure of attending the opening last night thanks to the stellar Kelly Cutrone and her team at Peoples Revolution.

The event attracted the likes of Gerard Butler, Sante D'Orazio, Elizabeth "Jessie Spano" Berkley, Samantha Mathis and, my personal favorite, the lovely and talented Parker Posey and her dog Gracie. The real star however was the immaculately constructed paper garments on display.

Greg Lauren really brings a new synthesis to art and fashion with his work. Everything from perfectly tailored suits, boho vests, oxford shirts, a boxing robe, a variety of ties and even shoes are constructed out of paper.

There is even a glimpse of what his laboratory for crafting such works of wearable art may look like - a tornado's remnants of newspaper, catalogs, comics, fine Japanese paper, tools, swatches, ropes, garments and sewing materials as the inspirational drawing board and workshop for the perfect paper suit.

The exhibition runs through Nov. 1st at 28 Wooster St. in SoHo, NYC.

Françoise Nielly

I've just become aware of French artist Françoise Nielly. Her portraits are absolutely stunning. Armed with oil and knife she sculpts her pieces with sensual and explosive color. Her style fascinates me and I one day hope to see her work in person and god willing decorate my walls with it. Check her out here. Watch the video here.

Crumberazzi - NY Fashion Week

The Mightiest Crumb was fortuitously strolling past as the marc by marc show was getting out. As the who's who of fashion editors and socialites made their exodus to the streets, I managed to have a close encounter and snap a photo of none other than Carine Roitfeld, editor in chief for French Vogue. Ms. Roitfeld is one of my favorite figures in the industry and I think that she and her daughter Julia make a stunning French fashion duo. Voila!

Jeremy Scott F/W 09 preview vid

Check out this preview vid of Jeremy Scott's upcoming F/W '09 collection of Adidas Originals. This guy is out of this world and how can you not love it. His clothes go to a whole other hiptosphere of the ether - a place where a lot of other designers want to visit but are too scared. You have to give it up for Adidas too. The 3 stripes are known for collaborating with some unique heavy hitters in the fashion industry - Yohji Yamamoto, the undisputed King of the fresh tailored asymmetrical black. I've had the pleasure of seeing some of this collection up close and I have to say it really makes you want to shed your safeguards and break out into the world in a big way. I picture myself wearing the Tiger sweats head to toe in the back of a souped up pick-up truck screaming through Cental Park waving an African flag in the air to the tune of Africa by Toto (okay that's a little bizarre and possibly inappropriate but this is what I mean by the effect his clothes can have on a person). Loving the now and looking forward to the future of J. Scott.

Bande a part - cafe dance (1964)

Some of you may be aware by now that tMc is a mighty mighty fan of Jean-Luc Godard. For your enjoyment I submit this clip of one of the best dance scenes in cinema history. This is the cafe dance scene in Godard's Bande a Part, aka "Band of Outsiders" in the U.S. Consequently, this movie (along with Godard's work in general) was the inspiration for the impeccably tailored designer label Band of Outsiders. Furthermore, this film impressed Quentin Tarantino so much that he named his production company A Band Apart. If you have not seen this film in it's entirety then I highly suggest you do. Enjoy

Side note - it must be noted that this scene also includes Anna Karina, Godard's muse and at one point wife, and in this crumb's opinion the most beautiful woman to ever grace the silver screen.

Trousers

Trousers jeans, out of London, made in Italy, HUGE in Japan. Once again a product that this M. Crumb would like to purchase here in his homeland. Launched during London fashion week 2008, these fresh and future-focused yet domestically unknown denimites have since spurred a cult following in Japan - the Japanese are big into their quality denim. To boot, these trousers are "not born of exploitation" and crafted from ecologically friendly materials, organic premium denim - cage free? Either way, I will feel even cooler when I cop a pair of these eco-friendly fly Nippon knickers.

Apache wear

This Fall the Mightiest Crumb is going Apache. Out of A Child Of The Jago, Joe Corre's Terrorist line includes several Apache inspired garments. Cashmere Apache print hoodies (I'll take on in every color please), new custom made embossed Apache belt (Below) and rugged Apache war pants with leather fringe.
In the spirit of the mighty Geronimo "one who yawns," (they even have a soft bamboo fabric t-shirt featuring the great leader himself) I will suit up and take to the street of NYC wearing this modern salute to the proud Native American spirit - be he friend or foe!

The Crumberazzi

Well well well... who do we have here? Brace yourselves you CW watching gossip mongers, it's none other than Leighton Meester aka Blair Waldorf saying a quick hello to Kelly Rutherford aka Lily van der Woodsen and her fresh little baby on route to the Gossip Girl set at the National Arts Club in Gramercy. Little did she know she was standing right in the Mightest Crumb's way as I gobbled up some Bravo pizza on my way back to the office. Could that strapping tall man in the black t-shirt following in tow be her new love interest? All I know is that I could have done without the sea of giddy teenies and their flashing Sony Cyber-Shot cameras as I passed her by. I'm pretty sure I overheard one dark little fan girl in the back mumbling about a nefarious plan to kidnap Chuck Bass and breed with him - good luck CREEEEPY!

The Crumberazzi

Can't hide from the Crumberazzi! Here we see Larry David himself watching the Red Sox/Yankees game in a sports club next to Fenway. He took a quick moment to give the Mightiest Crumb a dirty look as I unashamedly snapped a quick iPhone pic. He was nice enough to give me a wave as I thanked him for his just being there with a thumbs up. I must give a shout out to DJ B-Roc for spotting the Curb-feld genius on our stroll out of the Fenway.

(listen folks, I know the crumberazzi photos are crap quality but hey I have better things to do then buy pricey high quality SLRs to lurk around the city with documenting the uninteresting comings and goings of famous people. Feel free to send me $$ though and perhaps one of these days the crumberazzi will get that fancy SLR with the telephoto lens and snap some wonder shots of the recognizables, until then it's iPhone on the go)

Paul Delaney Art

I've just been made aware of a young contemporary artist from Cork, Ireland whose work of digital illustration, acrylic and mixed medium paintings has demanded an interest from my eye. Paul Delaney is his name and his bold and stylized prints make me want to buy a raw lofty SoHo pad and scatter them about so that I may invite friends and colleagues over to marvel and comment on my impeccable taste for contemporarily hip design. Seriously though, I implore you to check out his work here.
